Deforestation and Climate change
A large study performed by over 100 researchers found that tree dwelling primates-like monkeys and lemurs-in Central and South America and Madagascar are spending more time on the ground, increasing their exposure to humans and predators. This happens because rising temperatures and alter the tree canopies which forces the primates to seek food and cooler conditions in lower levels.
However, it is suggested that certain traits like having a varied diet and living in larger social groups may help other primates adapt more than others. The study consisted of 150,000 hours of observation of over 47 species suggests that because primates already face major challenges, with climate change and deforestation adding to the pressure, suggests the need for targeted conservation, especially for species that are slower to adapt.
